ABOUT
US
The Finney Retina Research Foundation is a non-profit organization
dedicated to increasing awareness of the growing problem of vision
loss due to Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy. Our goal
is to raise funds for research so that new treatments can be developed
and ultimately a cure can be found.
The Guys For Eyes calendar serves as a primary fundraiser and vehicle
to increase awareness about the growing problem of vision loss due
to these diseases. In addition to the calendar, The Finney Retina
Research Foundation hosts events to increase community involvement
and raise additional funds for retina research.
The Finney Retina Research Foundation was founded by Suzi
Reynolds in 2004. The initial inspiration came from watching her
mother struggle with severe
vision problems caused by
Myopic Degeneration. Her
frustration grew as everyday
tasks became more and more
challenging. The treatments
are few and uncertain, but
additional inspiration and
motivation was gained from
the incredibly caring and
talented doctors and employees at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Press
attention received in 2005 prompted an overwhelming response from
people nationwide. Emails arrive on a regular basis from people who,
either themselves or their loved ones, have been affected by retina
disease. Many just want to share their experiences, convey their
anxiety, and extend support for the Foundation and Guys for Eyes.
On occasion, people send pictures in hopes of being selected for
the next calendar.
